Veils are a key element in identifying the bride to be and used to be worn to protect the bride from evil spirits. Fast forward a few decades and the veil is seen as a symbol of the bride's innocenece and purity. Nowadays, the veil is more of a fashion accessory and one of the hottest styles is the bird cage veil. What exactly is a bird cage veil? It's a short veil that covers the face up to the chin and usually made of russian veiling or millinery netting.

Apparently, these coveted items are just as easy to make as they are to purchase. Try googling 'bird cage veils' and a plethora of tutorials pop up. At first glance, I wasn't too sure what kind of website I had uncovered as I was too busy making a mental shopping list. Bell'occhio, located in San Francisco, is a speciality shop offering antiques and curiosities.

Situated just off Market Street by VanNess Avenue and Mission Street, Bell'occhio has some of the most eye catching items that are neatly sorted in four categories - maison (house), papeterie (stationery), confiserie (confectionery) and beaute (beauty).

Unfortunately, they only ship to US addresses at the moment. Road trip anyone?

If I was rich, or at least had more funds in the trip jar, I would take 11 of my closest friends to the local village of Fettercairn, Scotland and stay in the Balbegno Castle.

We would cook our meals here....


... and then eat them in the Dining Room ....


... and fall asleep here ...


Of course, we would also have new names. Something grand that started with Lady or Lord which we would call ourselves while drinking tea with our pinkys held up high.
