Indie I Do took place last Saturday and, as always, it was a complete blast! Not only did our Principle Day-of Coordinator, Witty, come hang out with us all day, but we bumped into so many familiar faces and met so many new ones! Sometimes you spend so much time going back and forth over email, that it's good to put a face behind that address. 

Here's some sneak peeks of the lotus events booth display which I am completely in love with. I have to admit that I do struggle with booth displays. Usually, we are so busy coordinating vendors and making sure that everything is being crossed off of our to do list for the show, that our display often gets pushed to the bottom of the list.

Sorry librarians and book lovers, but you have to admit, this is a super cute way to mark your guest tables.

Bride and groom pennants made of felt and strung together with bakers twine. Oh, and my favourite piece, check out the lotus events sign above (first image). We borrowed a chalkboard frame from Studio Jeanie, but 'my handwriting + chalk + being 1:00 a.m. before the show =  not happening', so on to plan B - logo + blender pen = genius!

a prepping we will go

We have been busy prepping our booth space at Indie I Do this year. Want a little something of your own? Come visit us and pick up your own mini notebook. Whew. Booth designing is exhausting. Especially when you realize that half the items you could be using is traveling across the world right now to our new home. So, a thrifting we will go! Hoping to find some hidden treasures for a few final touches.

Two years ago, when we were playing around the idea of an alternative wedding show with our friends over at Blue Olive Photography, we had no idea what a huge response we would receive!




Indie I Do was started to give wedding couples an alternative to the cookie cutter wedding where one size does not fit all. Our goal is to provide wedding couples to think outside the box and provide alternative options that they can incorporate into their wedding. This may be adding a green touch to their special day.... a handmade twist... or a punk hair do!

Tracey Heppner is one of the most nicest people in the universe. Seriously. Hand down. She spent the entire day at Indie I Do last January just hanging out and snapping beautiful images of our lovely vendors. Pictured above is our booth set up. Displays are always so difficult for me. I have two concerns: 1) To stay on budget and 2) To not have to transport / move too many things i.e. everything needs to fit in a Toyota Echo Hatchback.



My inspiration for this year... a blue and white checkered table cloth I thrifted from Portland. That white crinkly linen on top? That's an Ikea blanket. The petit fours? Made of felt and glue. The cutlery? That was a wedding present from Robert's sister that has never really been used except for Indie I Do booth displays. Everything else? Thrifted or from around the house. Oh yes... and the background? That's a 4ft x 8ft chalkboard that has hand drawn images of all things wedding planning by phanie.

Indie I Do is a joint production between lotus events and our friends over at Blue Olive Photography. As Vancouver’s first alternative wedding show, our goal is to bring together over 30 local vendors that offers a spin to the traditional wedding. Be it burlesque classes, handmade dresses, one of a kind bird cage veils and top hats or eco-friendly catering, this is the place to find it.

Indie I Do

Indie I Do is an alternative to the cookie cutter wedding where one size does not fit all. The first show of its kind in Canada and the second annual edition for us, Indie I Do revolutionizes an industry that is dominated by commercial products and provides couples with the opportunity to think outside the box.

The indie wedding market is almost non-existent as couples often have to search high and low to find the products and services that will help create a wedding day full of personal touches without an unnecessary price tag to go with it. Indie I Do is a one-stop show featuring the non-traditional alongside the traditional.

While the show will naturally attract couples looking at completely non-traditional weddings, the intent is to also introduce those couples with more traditional events to unique touches and alternatives that they can incorporate into their events.

the best doughnut shop ever!

Yes, we are in Portland AGAIN! It was a Valentines... "hey do you want to go somewhere?"... "let's go to Portland".. kind of thing. So here we are.

We got in late last night as I had a few meetings to attend to yesterday morning. After we checked in, we headed over to Powells to go and purchase The Zinester's Guide to Portland (2007): A Low/No Budget Guide to Visiting and Living in Portland, Oregon which was highly recommended to us by Jeannette and Cornelius. Unfortunately, we couldn't find it, but we will try again and ask at the little info desk up front.



Anyways, the reason why I am posting is this cute little doughnut shop that we found on our trip downtown! Voodoo Doughnuts !! This place is so cool. So perfect for Indie I Do! They even have their wedding packages listed here. I'm not even a big fan of doughnuts, but I love this place. Where else are you going to find chandeliers in a doughnut shop?

Indie I Do was not only the first time we produced a wedding show, but it was the first time that we participated in a wedding show! I have to admit, there was some panic and drama regarding the display, but all's well that ends well.

so little time

So many things to say... so little time! I am not ignoring you. I have just had my hands full. Indie I Do is this Saturday and my to do list has a lot of points that need to be checked off.

However, I wanted to pop in quickly and show off these lovely buttons that Mustache Press put together for the show. These are just a sample. There are so many different designs and so many more colour combinations! I want to keep them all. Yup. All 500 of them. Do you want some too? Come to the show! Aislewalk

Last Sunday was the Aislewalk magazine launch and what a party! We drove straight from Portland to be at this event and we had so much fun. The lemon drops and food was delish. The decor was fabulous and of course, my favourite thing at the party, the photobooth!


Remember Nicole and Jason from September 07? Nicole launched her very own wedding coordination company called Down the Aisle specializing in day of coordination. That's them in our aislewalk ad!

Aislewalk is one of the best wedding magazines out there. Not only is it packed full of information and helpful worksheets, but you can just tuck it into your purse and carry it to all of your vendor meetings. Want your very own copy?
