growing old together

What a fantastic invite idea!

Taken from M/A/S/H/ - The concept was to use the concept of ‘growing old together’. Face shots were then takenof the bride and groom which Dom then used as a basis to create a chronological representation of their aging faces into the future. 10, 20, 30 and 40 years into the future, growing old together.

vinyl + sharpie love

After shopping our crafty hearts away at the Buy the Yard sale last Sunday, Becka and Richard came over to help make the Swap-O-Rama-Rama banner.

3 meters of Vinyl at $2 a meter plus the largest sharpie marker you can find = an amazing looking banner!!

Update:  I should have also mentioned that we borrowed a projector from the lovely olives to trace the image.

etsy spring fling

The first craft fair of the year took place today at the Cambrian Hall. Nicole from It's Your Life and I shared a table. The sun was out shining and we saw so many familiar faces (thanks for stopping by and saying hi!) including some new ones. Can you believe it? I didn't buy a single thing at the fair. My crafting funds are going straight into 'Andrea's birthday celebrations in Europe' piggy bank. :D

how do they do that?

Awesome things I found while spending TOO much time on the internet!

You to can make your very own gummy bear chandelier by following the tutorial listed here. I think the real question is... how many bears were eaten during this project!?

For those DIY brides thinking of making their own invites, you may want to check out this little tutorial to help guide you along the way.

How cool would this be as wedding favours? With a different image of course (or not?) :D Learn how to paint on chocolate here.

A garden party

Robert here.....what better to do on a rainy day then start the garden! With a little help from my friends Gnorman on the right and Mr. Travelocity Gnome on the left, we fired up the mini greenhouse today. So far, we just used the leftover seeds from last year -lettuce, carrots, radishes, beets ...

If you are not familiar with the intersection of Oak and 16th, here is a picture of the space as it has looked for the past 12 years.

There used to be an apartment building with the Windjammer restaurant and Popovers bakery. Sadly, it burned and the spot was left vacant. Last summer, a group formed and they worked together to plant and transform the area into a community garden.

A few snapshots from last year:

SWAP-O-RAMA-RAMA

A month or so ago, I received an email from Lisa at Maked Crafts letting me know that Swap-O-Rama-Rama was looking for a new leader.

Of course, I said yes, because not only do I need to add to our "to do" list, but I also had to hold an event the same day that Rob is working on the Accolaids Gala. Nice! :P

* squeal *

We literally signed the contract and confirmed the flight before the first email came in asking...

"Is it true?"
Andrea: "What? How do you know already?"

Yes, it is true. Lotus Events and Got Craft? is proud to present the Vancouver premier of Handmade Nation.

insert (squeal / screaming / excited noise) here. Woot!

Faythe Levine will be live and in person on July 9th to introduce the film and do a Q & A session after the screening. Want to attend? Stay tuned for more details!

What is Handmade Nation?
Handmade Nation documents a movement of artists, crafters and designers that recognize a marriage between historical techniques, punk and DIY (do it yourself) ethos while being influenced by traditional handiwork, modern aesthetics, politics, feminism and art. Fueled by the common thread of creating, Handmade Nation explores a burgeoning art community that is based on creativity, determination and networking.

In 2006, first time director Faythe Levine traveled to 15 cities, interviewing 80 individuals. Levine captured the virtually tight-knit community that exists through websites, blogs and online stores and connects to the greater public through independent boutiques, galleries and craft fairs.
