i want this

need I say more?

i love flickr

Sorry (again) for the lack of posts. Tis the season I guess. We just finished a 3 event weekend last weekend. They were all corporate events, so no photos to show. We find that weddings all have beautiful photos from professional photographers, but when it comes to corporate events, they rarely have a professional photographer on-site. When they do have a photographer, all they ever shoot are the guests. What about the details!?

I took some of my own from the corporate bbq and fireworks night on Saturday, but they turned out horrible. I'm too embarrassed to upload them. Too bad though, there was a lot of fun gingham linens that night!

August is going to be a busy one! Lately I feel like I am going from one final walk through to the next. All good stuff though :) Don't get me wrong ... it isn't all work around here. I did spend the morning making this:

If you want to waste some time too, then visit this website to make your own.

Ps. It's Pride this weekend! Go check out Rob at the BCPWA booth at the end of Thurlow and Beach!

gocco print

My library catalogue gocco print arrived last week from this shop. It's the perfect accessory to go on top of the real catalogue.

Sorry for the short post, but I have to run! Two events down this weekend... one more in progress!

working with a clingy cat

how am I suppose to get any work done?

garden update

We have eggplant, cucumbers, stevia (natural sugar plant), lavender, celery, spinach and tomatoes on one end. On the seed side, we have beets, radishes and lettuce.

Email seems to be broken, so I have to use our webmail which seems so generic. Sorry for the generic looking emails this morning.

PS. Congrats Blue Olives! It was a tight race! It needs a good sanding and stain, but feel free to come pick it up next week.

look at those legs!

Unfinished things drive me crazy. We finally bought some legs for the library catalogue so we could get it off the floor. What are your thoughts? I'm not sure if I love them or if I am just settling so that we can move on. We still have the other half of the catalogue in my Mom's basement. There is no top and slide out bottom for this though, but would look great on a shelf and you can make your own lid. It is up for grabs, so just leave me a comment or send me an email if you are interested. Of course, you need to come pick it up :)

This week is quite hairy. Events tomorrow, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Do you know what I noticed when I get stressed? I start baking. Blueberry muffins just came out of the oven with fresh blueberries. I know.. I'm such an odd one.

flower factory

I have pretty much spent the last week "living" at the Flower Factory on Main Street. They are by far one of my favourite flower shops in Vancouver. I love their staff, I love their location and of course, I love their flowers!

Since I was there so much, I figured I would snap some pictures for the blog.

how cool are these orchids?

love this ottoman! so cool.

You know what I like best about this place? I can bike there! That's right. I dusted off the old bicycle and cycled over 2 out of the 3 trips. I even brought home some garlic scapes.

Garlic scapes... equals.. garlic scape pesto.

dinner

Life seems to be on high-speed lately. I wanted to move the office to Mayne Island for a few days, but it doesn't look like that is happening anytime soon. Too many things to do .. too many events coming up. I'm tired just thinking about it :)

At home, our doors are currently being painted. The process seems to be taking forever. Granted, there are many suites in the building, but I think this has been going on for over a month. The painter just finished sanding the door this morning for the final coat and he still needs to do the door jambs. Hopefully, that will be done soon.

Ever since the hot weather has arrived, the oven has been banned. Yesterday, I decided to override the ban and made a Couronne from scratch with some pasta and herbs from the garden. The Couronne is a French loaf that is a specialty of Lyon. Depending on the weather, I may attempt to make a neopolitan pizza with the same loaf recipe. The recipes are from that book that I told you about... you know.. this one.

summer festivals

We headed down to Seattle and Portland last weekend. Yes, again. We love Portland. What can we say? :)

We were there for 3 days and 2 nights and there were so many summer festivals happening! Wow!

We watched them set up for the CRAFT PDX Block Party which was awesome! The event is to celebrate Portland's Museum of Contemporary Craft's first anniversary being at their new location in the Pearl District. The event was held on Sunday and we went down on Saturday for a sneak peek of their evening gala set up. I love watching set up. I know. I'm such a geek.

Saturday was also packed with other goodies including a bike festival at the park outside of Lloyd Center, two farmers markets, an International market by the hotel we were staying at and of course, Portland's Saturday market right by the Burnside bridge.

If that wasn't enough for you, Crafty Wonderland was held on Sunday at the Douglas Fir Lounge and Seattle hosted the Chinatown-International District Summer Festival. Of course, I forgot my camera for everything and only took one picture the entire weekend. The picture is from a vendor at the Seattle festival that carved fruits and vegetables into amazing art.

In other news, I went biking yesterday for the first time in many, many, many years! I'm planning on biking to the Flower Factory later today, so hope that goes well!

50's Theme

We finally received the pictures from the decor event that we participated a few months back. The event was basically 3 event coordination companies were each assigned a decade 50's / 60's / 70's. We were then given a blank space and were left to go wild. We got the 50's. We split our area into two and built a 50's style kitchen on one side and a diner on the other.

Here are my favourite pictures:

We attached our business cards and gave away these cute glass bottles of pop (not currently available in Canada).

I love this kitchen.

I'm the blurry figure on the left.

living room

Some random pictures that were taken when it was still sunny. The walls are currently bare. I'm still trying to think all that out.... sigh.

next time you are feeling hot...

Just think of this.

This picture was taken from our old house in Kerrisdale during the last snow storm.

We are off to watch Cirque de Soleil tonight, but first, I need to finish making some banana, walnut and chocolate chip muffins.

community garden

I used to live in this neighbourhood when I went to elementary school. There was a small bagel shop in the corner of Oak and West 16th called Popovers. However, it was demolished ages ago and an empty lot has been sitting there for the past 10 or so years. Well.. lately .. Rob and I have been walking past and we noticed that there were a few people milling about on the empty lot. A few days later, we noticed that the entire lot was mowed. Finally, on our way home from the fruit stand last night, we saw a group in the empty lot and we poked our heads in. $30 later, we are proud owners of a community garden plot! Yippee!

Rob started a garden in the backyard of our old place in Kerrisdale, so we are very happy to have a new place to plant our veggies that is only 2 blocks away from the apartment. Although this lot has sat vacant for so many years, this garden is supposedly only temporary as it depends on what the owner decides to do. Compost arrives next week and the water is suppose to be hooked up soon. As of last night, there are still a few plots left, so hurry!

Suzanna and Pierre were married on June 30th at Cecil Green in UBC. Congratulations you guys! I love military weddings. Everybody is always on time!

We had a lot of fun. Can you tell?

Thanks so much to Ronn from UBC Catering, Film Sense, Three Seasons Photography, Ganache Yaletown and Proline Trading!

long weekend

It's hot. I mean really REALLY really hot. Poor little kitty. Cleo can't get settled in this heat wave. She walks around with a grumpy look on her face searching for a cool spot to lay in. She's been kind of mopey lately with the hot weather and likes to expose as much of her fuzzy tummy as possible to help cool her down.

July long weekend almost means celebrating my mom's birthday (July 1st). Each year we head over to her place for a backyard BBQ. Of course, this year, my step dad just bought Guitar Hero 3 and two guitars! Rob, step dad, my cousin Brandon and I all took turns battling it out and let me just say that I rocked! I love that game and can't wait to spend more quality time at my mom's =)

happy birthday to my mom and to Canada!
